The beautiful invitation to the screening of the movie “Dior and I” directed by Frederic Tcheng excited my curiosity. It is no secret that I love fashion and needless to say that I was excited about this movie. Unfortunately the screening was unexpectedly cancelled. Blame it on the haze and the political instability happening in KL at that time . However, few days ago, Dior called and announced that the screening was happening. I finally went to the private screening two days ago. Sure enough, I wasn’t disappointed.
The movie tells the story of how Christian Dior became the fashion house we come to know today by showing his first designs and his childhood home as inspiration. However, the movie also gave an extensive insight on Raf Simons life as the Creative Director at the head of Dior from his first day to his very anticipated first collection. Dior and I was simply an amazing story that humanize fashion in an inspiring way.
More importantly, this movie gave us a glimpse behind the scenes of Dior and the creative process involved in the design of a collection. You’ll also witness the hard work that the Dior team from the creative director to the seamstresses put into the collection. All the craftsmanship involved, the emotional and technical aspects of the designs would only leave you more appreciative of Dior. Raf’s first collection proved that he successfully “brought some emotion back” just like he stated in Vogue in 2012. The big names of the Fashion Industry such as Anna Wintour were present to witness his first collection.
At the end of the movie, you’ll leave the screening room thinking that Dior is not just a label, it is a team with a strong heritage that lasts for decades. Dior has always had an emotional value for me and my very first Dior purchase back when I was a student in Paris is still with me today. And yes, you guess right, this movie has definitively made me proud of owning a piece of Dior. That’s exactly what the movie will do to you if you are already a Dior lover but if you are not, they are chances you’ll want to be part of the Dior family. Thank you for reading!
