Happy Monday!
I hope you all had a lovely week-end! The best part of my week-end was a mother daughter date with my youngest while the big one went to her friend birthday party. Talking about week-end, the SAG awards was last week-end. Did you watch it? What do you think about Viola Davis speech and Idris Elba speech? There is so much controversy in Hollywood right now, that I can’t help but ask myself what the Fashion World thinks about it? I know that race conversation has always been a controversial one. Though my Caucasian husband and I – I’m sure many other mixed families- talk about those subjects openly for the sake of raising our children with self-love and self acceptance. I recall that one of the many reasons why I started to blog is that I didn’t see a real representation of black bloggers that I could look up to. I didn’t know that luxury fashion black bloggers existed. However, I quickly found out that there are some amazing black bloggers who are not just being represented, invited, or given opportunity to like the other races. I see Caucasian and Asian fashion bloggers being sponsored, invited by all these major fashion brands but rarely, almost never a black blogger. Why there is so much lack of diversity in the Hollywood and in the fashion World when many families are comprised of people from diverse races? Diversity is not just a word for families like mine. Diversity is a strength, not a weakness. Beside, we owe to our kids a better World. This means a World that is inclusive of anyone based on their merit regardless of their race or skin color. In that regard, I agree with Viola Davis who says that the diversity conversation is not a trending topic. I thank my beloved husband for supporting, encouraging me and being open minded enough to be able to talk about this topic. Talking about an issue doesn’t necessary mean that we pick a side or that we are pro anything. It could just mean that we care enough! He proves to me everyday that LOVE has no race and it is worth fighting for.
Back to this look, I decided to add some sequin to my lace top by pairing a sequin skirt with my Self Portrait top. Self Portrait designs are sought after by fashionistas from around the World. The pieces are delicate and feminine. To me, Self Portrait designs represent a modern day femininity with an edgy appeal. I made this lace top my own by styling it with a sequin skirt.
